Краткий обзор GUM

Size (Leasable area) of the shopping center, square meters: 69,000 (26,000 — 36,000)
The 'GUM' department stores is owned by: CJSC 'Vostok i Zapad' group of companies'

State Department Store also known as GUM is neatly situated facing Red Square and Lenin's Mausoleum. As splendid as the building looks from the outside, this pales down to its interiors: three levels of luxurious galleries and fretwork all under the soaring glass dome. The construction of the GUM's building was commenced back in 1890 (GUM bore the name of 'Upper Trading Rows' at the time) when the site was unrivaled as the place of choice for family promenades.

Nowadays, the department store is home to mostly upscale and luxury brands: think Dior, Vilebrequin, Louis Vuitton, Escada, Gucci, and Hermes. It was GUM that served as a base for the expansion of a number of them to the Russian market. Just to give you an idea, flagship stores by Manolo Blahnik, Bosco Fresh, and Furla (the store was opened as recently as May, 2016) have all secured their retail space in GUM. A couple dozen retail outlets with the 'Bosco' prefix in their name are telling of the GUM's major shareholder: the Russian-based Bosco company that owns namesake Bosco multi-label stores alongside a hundred fashion boutiques in Russia and abroad.

The first GUM level features the famous historic toilet, an authentically furnished reenactment of the pre-revolutionary toilet experience that costs ₽150 to enjoy. One can also take a shower there for a modest ₽500 more that amount (a bathrobe, towels, and slippers are all included in the price). The same storey hosts the "No.1" gastronome that impeccably recreates, with its interiors and staff uniforms, the aura of the Soviet era gastronomes. The Soviet style also reigns supreme at the 'Festivalnoye' cafe and the 'Stolovaya No. 57' cafeteria both located on the second floor of the department store.

Another celebrated attraction at GUM is its house-made ice cream that serves as a time machine of sorts for the older Soviet-bred generations. The ice cream is available from the parlours located on the ground floor.

Every winter Muscovites and tourists alike are welcomed to the outdoor GUM-Katok skating rink that opens on Red Square. Abundant New Year's paraphernalia never fails to cheer up and impress tourists and the idly strolling general public as well.

GUM annually holds BoscoFashionWeek remarkable for the fact that unlike with other fashion shows it's Bosco Family customers who appear on the runway instead of professional models.
